Sworn in on September 22, 2025, Mike Obadal serves as the 36th Under Secretary of the Army. As the Army’s chief management officer, he oversees business operations, personnel systems, and acquisition strategies while driving enterprise reform. Working alongside senior leadership, he prioritizes warfighter readiness, modernization, and talent transformation.
Obadal brings three decades of diverse experience across the military and defense technology sectors. Beginning his Army career in 1996, he commanded attack helicopter units globally and served as a Special Operations officer across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. A Master Army Aviator with over 3,000 flight hours, he is qualified in nine aircraft types.
In the private sector, he spearheaded programs delivering advanced hardware and software to government clients. He is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and holds master’s degrees from the Navy War College and National Defense University.
